8-1 To Germany

If there were any doubts that Germany is the new king of world football (even after Bayern Munich crushed Barcelona 4-0 in the first semi-final of the Champions League), this morning’s result should put it to rest. This morning, Borussia Dortmund defeated Real Madrid 4-1 to prove beyond any doubts that the power of world football has firmly moved from Spain to Germany.

With the prospect of an all-German final on the cards, let's look at the facts. The top 2 teams in Germany has just defeated the top 2 teams in Spain by a total of 8-1! Not only that, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund did it in a distinctly German way. Bayern's best player in the game against Barcelona was German playmaker Thomas Muller, and while Polish striker Robert Lewandowski scored all 4 goals in their game against Madrid, the architect of Dortmund's win was German midfielder Mario Goetze. Madrid's best player is Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona's best player is Argentina's Lionel Messi!

If things keep going this way, the favorites and winner for next year's World Cup might not be Brazil or Spain. It will be Germany.
